new year prep

One day left of 2017 and like everyone else, I have my own rituals to prepare for the upcoming year!

1. complete a reflection exercise

This is a popular time for self-reflection & setting personal goals, which is why I complete a twenty-five question survey that I stumbled across on my Tumblr feed. I’m a huge fan of journaling (shocker), so for the past 5 years I’ve done this religiously. It's something I even revisit throughout the year for accountability and I make any necessary updates. So if you can’t get it done before January, don’t panic because I’ve found this to be helpful throughout the year too!

2. create/update your budget

I like to have a solid budget in place before the year starts. My dad shared this template with me years ago & I’ve been using it ever since. I love how user-friendly it is! Superstitious people also believe bringing in the year with cash on hand brings good financial fortune, so I withdraw money well in advance.

3. cleanse yourself of all negative energy

Sage Smudges are an ancient Native American ritual. It's purpose is to cleanse your space and aura by clearing out bad energy and blocking any future negative energy. You should start with yourself, then continue throughout the home counterclockwise, beginning and ending with your doorway. All you need is a smudge stick & abalone shell, or anything with a burn proof surface. I bought a Chakra Stone Set from Amazon, which also includes 7 crystals, a wood stand, and cage pendant for the stones because I'm slightly extra 😅.

4. surround yourself with positivity

A fresh vision board is another necessity of mine. I hear a lot of people complain that they're time consuming/demanding artistically, but it can be as detailed or as simple as you please. Mine contains a lot of handwritten goals, articles, and motivational quotes. I also randomly add to it throughout the year. We all have rough days and this serves as a reminder of why you're doing what you're doing. I created a gallery below of some of my favorite motivational images.

Feel free to save/share any of these tips! Happy New Year! 🥂
